Macbeth at the Yerevan State Chamber Theatre

The Yerevan State Chamber Theatre plays Shakespeare's Macbeth in a staging by the English director Elliot Huxtable, artistic director of the Canterbury Shakespeare Festival.

The adaptation is by Charlotte Groombridge and the translation by Hasmik Harutyunyan (Hasmik Seymour); the music is Vahe Grigoryan's and the costumes Gayane Bayatyan's.

The cast

Vahe Ziroyan is Macbeth and Sona Matevosyan Lady Macbeth; Avet Zohrabyan doubles Duncan and Malcolm, Mher Alabegyan Banquo and Young Siward, and Suren Poghosyan plays Macduff. The witches are Mohana, Eva Khachatryan and Viktorya Sahakyan.

The production

The theatre calls it a modern reading of the tragedy, minimal in its design, with the witches steering events — one rather suspects they always were. 7 October at 19:00, with tickets from 3,000 to 8,000 drams.
